Writers, singer, and songs that we have examined this semester (see below) have focused on the  concept of the African Diaspora and that of popular culture. Write an essay of a minimum of 6 full pages or a maximum of 7, double spaced, and discuss one author (or co-authors) from the lists below, one author (or co-authors) from list A and another author from list B.

Moreover, discuss a song or writer from List C. Analyze and contrast what the readings, song and/or clothing suggest and how they inform our understanding of the African Diaspora and that of African societies.

— List A: Hakim Adi, Janet Mac Gaffey and R. Bazenguissa-Ganga, John Clark.

— List B: Dominic Thomas, Filip de Boeck and Césarine Bolya, Jane Bryce.

— List C: Koffi Olomidé’s “Affaire d’Etat,” Benitez Rojo.

When answering, make sure to address the following: A) How do your chosen authors inform your understanding of the African Diaspora?

B) What did you learn after reading authors such as Hakim Adi, Janet Mac Gaffey and R. Bazenguissa-Ganga, John Clark ? Did they help you increase your understanding of the African Diaspora ? While responding to this sub-question, make sure to discuss why young people especially choose to leave Africa, and how they lead their lives in their “host” countries.

C) After reading authors such as Dominic Thomas or Filip de Boeck and Césarine Bolya, what did you learn about clothing/dress, identity, and African History and the African Diaspora ? If Benitez Rojo had come across Dominic Thomas and Filip de Boeck and Césarine Bolya, what could he have said to them about popular culture?
