Students will select a community-based project (from the industry interviews conducted and embedded

into the course learning material) to unpack their learning and thinking. There are five community-based

projects to choose from:

• The Mulberry Project

• Base Services

• Club House

• The Dreams of Bricks

• Synthesis

Background information

Community development is an initiative that seeks to ensure that any given community is able to enhance

human experience through exercising control that is independent of larger structural systems. It is a

bottom-up approach, that requires holistic consideration of all dimensions of human rights and needs.

Tesoriero’s (2010) integrated model of community development ensures holistic approaches required to

satisfy human experience are considered in community development responses, delivering an advanced

and comprehensive tool administrable in project evaluation.

In order to adequately address this topic, you will need to demonstrate knowledge of Tesoriero’s (2010)

integrated model of community development (introduced in week 2, chpt 9) and apply this to evaluate one

community-based project (discussed during the industry interviews conducted and embedded into the

course learning material). You will also critically examine a theoretical framework underpinning the project

of interest, and finally draw conclusions about strengths and limitations of its implementation. Students

are required to use relevant literature, frameworks and course material to support this work. Students will

need to be clear and concise in their approach to this assessment.

Complete the essay by addressing the following topics:

• Introduction

• Description of the community-based project (selected from industry interviews);

• Description of the aspects of Tesoriero’s (2010) integrated community development model

evident in the project;

• Identification and critique of the theoretical framework underpinning the project;

• Evaluation of the effectiveness of the project;

• Conclusion
