Evaluation Assignment 3: Drama Critique Directions: After viewing Death of a Salesman and A Raisin in the Sun, write a review of ONE of those productions as if you were a drama critic telling readers whether or not it is worth seeing. Your critique must be a minimum of 800 words; the tips below should help you get started; you should also view the critique on Moose Murders provided above for guidance in this particular writing style. This assignment is opinion based. Therefore, it can be written in the first person (using the pronouns “I”, “My”, etc.). eTutoring is not required. All work is due by NOON on 8/14/18. Start with a compelling fact or opinion on the play. You want to get the reader hooked immediately. This sentence needs to give them a feel for your review and the play — is it good, great, terrible, or just okay? — and keep them reading. Give a clear, well-established opinion early on. Don’t leave the reader guessing whether you like the play or not. Let them know early on, so that you can spend the rest of the time “proving” your point. Back up your opinion with specific evidence. This is where taking notes during the play really pays off. No one values your opinion if you can’t give facts that support your argument. Move beyond the obvious plot analysis. Plot is just one piece of a play, and shouldn’t dictate your entire review (though it should be briefly covered). Some plays don’t have great or compelling plots, but that doesn’t mean the play itself is bad. Other things to focus on include: Tone Music and Sound Acting Setting
