General Instructions: Write an informed, researched long-form

magazine or newspaper article (in the style of The Atlantic or a New York Times editorial) (Op-Ed style) on the theme of digital surveillance for targeted advertisements and other purposes.

The Op-Ed must argue that although these practices are concerning from a privacy/ethics standpoint, they have been normalized as being the price one pays to be able to use a tool that in today’s social climate is indispensable for social and professional purposes. Argue that the depth of knowledge that data harvesting can gain on regular people is concerning and invasive, as well as the extent of damage that data breaches and mismanagement of harvested data can cost to all stakeholders.

Please refer to Elizabeth Dwoskin’s “Online Privacy and What We’ve Learned About Tech Giants” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sGKHnCcWzM), The Social Dilemma (Netflix) and any other such sources to support the previous arguments.
