Major catastrophic events affect everyone. Most often, these are geographically centered, and the effects are felt by both the wealthy and the poor. However, the economic implications differ greatly based on a person’s relative wealth. In some ways, the wealthy are insulated from certain results because they have the money to “ride out” the difficulties. For those in poverty, there is a little buffer and a major catastrophic event may cause irreparable damage.
In this case, the study explores a localized catastrophic event that took place within the last 10 years. It must be localized (within a city or region) and disruptive.

Flood
Earthquake
Tornado
Violence / Violent Protests (my selection would be Black Lives Matter or George Floyd)

Title Slide
Explanation of the event including place, date, timeframe, and overall catastrophic nature of the event (2-3 slides). Include appropriate pictures which show this specific event, not generic pictures of similar events.
Discussion regarding how the event was experienced by those in poverty or lower income. This must include how the actual event affected them, as well as the ongoing effects after the event (2-3 slides). Include appropriate pictures which show this specific event, not generic pictures of similar events.

This must include how the actual event affected them, as well as the ongoing effects after the event (2-3 slides). For a future event of the same nature, describe how a church can provide a solution for one major problem experienced by those in poverty. How can we prepare now to be ready to help them quickly in a time of need? (1-2 slides)
