 (i) the early modern empires (1380-1650) and 

(ii) empires of the mid-nineteenth century (1820s-1885). 

Also discuss in what ways the occupation of each of the following was representative of the ‘New Imperialism’: 

(a) the Southeast Asian state of Burma (or Myanmar); 

(b) the Upper Nile region (or today’s Republics of South Sudan and Sudan); 

(c) the East Asian peninsular state of Korea; and 

(d) the Caribbean island nation of Haiti.
