C‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍AM selected: Tumeric Title or topic ( please feel free to refrase or improved title) The use of turmeric for pain management in ESRD ( End Stage Renal Diseases) patients. Following are all the professor’s instructions. I will also attach an example ( Exampler paper )of the paper provided by the professor. I also attached some articles, but feel free to used look for your own articles as well. Literature review Students will conduct a literature review of their selected CAM. Criteria for the review is listed below. This paper should be prepared with appropriate APA format and be no longer than 10 pages including title page and reference page.

This review must be graded and approved before moving on to the powerpoint section (a grade of at least 80 is required) Papers not meeting this standard will need to be revised and resubmitted within 1 week of receiving the grade.

There will be a 5 point reduction each day the assignment is late. Literature review Introduction General overview about the CAM selected and its intended use. Be aware that many CAMs have multiple uses and you will need to be concise about which use you are evaluating the CAM on (the available literature will likely guide you on this.

Example: Omega 3 Fatty acid (DHA, EPA) in the use of osteoarthritis (in this case you will want to omit any studies done on cardiovascular health). Why did you select this CAM (refrain from writing in first person here, keep it professional)

Example: Omega 3 FA was selected for review due to the alarming overuse of opioid prescriptions in treatment of osteoarthritis. Search history: Where was your literature accessed (OVID, Cochrane, other resource for CAM); what were the keys words in your search; what ere the inclusion and exclusion criteria (dates, English language, etc), how many studies were included in your review and why (this is where you get to explain the process ( ex; three of the studi‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍es were omitted because they were backed by product producers or there were other influential variables). Summary and critique of findings:

Summarize each article you used and include your evaluation of them ex: The Johnson & Page study (2015), is a longitudinal, prospective study with a small sample size (N=15). While the study evaluated the effect of Omega 3 FAs on arthritis, only male patients under 50 years of age was used (this is made up but you get the idea here). Include in each study the following: article citation; design method; study purpose; sample and setting; findings, limitations, and conclusions; future implications; and gaps in knowledge.

Conclusion: This is where you will get to the heart of the project. After reviewing all the available data, are you likely to suggest this for your patient to use. You may use the grading criteria that you will give to your CAM that is outlined below. Content: Pick a complimentary medicine (herbs, vitamins, supplements). This will need to be pre -approved so there are no duplicates. Give a brief synopsis of what this CAM is used for or useful in. Research your CAM and based on evidence, you will award a grade to the CAM depending on the following criteria. You will need to provide a brief synopsis of your findings Grading Criteria: The letter grade on the left is assigned for the following criteria:

A : At least 3 studies that support the use of the CAM for it’s intended use, it is an affordable alternative or addition to the target population.

B: At least 2 studies supporting the use of the CAM and 1 with insufficient or negative findings; it is affordable to the general public.

C: At least one study supporting use (or more), CAM too expensive for use by the general population

D: Insufficient evidence to support use (multiple studies that do not support, lack of power in evidence)

F: Data does not support use or use contraindica‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍ted
