Details of what you are expected to do: 1. Rationale The rationale for this assignment is to assess whether students, in the context of the portfolio construction theory, can: a) Critically appraise the properties and the performance of various alternative asset classes. b) Evaluate Modern Portfolio theory and the Capital Asset Pricing Model. c) Critically appraise the validity and the anomalies of the Efficient Markets Hypothesis. d) Critically consider the concepts of behavioural finance and how it is used in the financial services industry. e) Critically appraise the various approaches to Ethical Investment. 2. The learning outcomes being assessed This assignment assesses Intended Learning Outcomes 1 to 6 inclusive, as set out in the unit specification. 3. Overview of assignment Students are required to prepare a report based on the construction of investment portfolio for a hypothetical client and on the critical evaluation of the different aspects and features of the constructed portfolio. 4. Assessment criteria and weightings The report will be marked based on BU’s generic assessment criteria for Masters students. Also, the report will be marked on the basis of the: 1. Critical appraisal of the properties of the various alternative asset classes 2. Evaluation of the portfolio performance based on the Capital Asset Pricing Model 3. Critical appraisal of the validity and the anomalies of the Efficient Markets Hypothesis 4. Consideration of the concepts of behavioural finance 5.
