This Research Discussion addresses the following lesson learning goals. Lesson Learning Goal (Course Outcome 6): Recognize the social and cultural influence produced through the governments sponsoring and censorship of art by completing a class discussion and peer responses. Research Discussion Steps Research the discussion topic and obtain college-level, credible sources. 

Discussion Topic: Government sponsorship and censorship in the visual arts. Government sponsorship of the visual arts has a long tradition. Sponsorship includes such things as funding museums, donating public spaces, and supporting individual artists and schools. For our module 2 discussion, you need to Research the history of government sponsorship in the visual arts. Additionally, research the history of government censorship of visual arts. 

Create an original research-based discussion addressing the following: Do you think that governments should have the power to censor artworks produced un​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍​der their sponsorship? Do you think that governments who sponsor the visual arts should give them power over the artist’s work? Research and give a specific example of a work of art that a government has tried to censors that helps to support your position. This censorship must have occurred within the last 10 years. Include images or videos of the artwork that was censored.

 Step One – Research the topic. To complete this research discussion, you will need to research and locate college-level and credible sources. Credible sources can be found at the HCC library in the form of books and scholarly articles. Step Two – Prepare your original research discussion. A minimum of 3 paragraphs is required. Each paragraph should be a minimum of 4 sentences. You should apply basic MLA format to all course writing assignments. In MLA, all paragraphs should be indented. Because you are using sources, you’ll have to demonstrate academic integrity and document using MLA guidelines for introducing sources, citing sources, and work cited entries.
