To utilize the descriptors, simply locate those appropriate for your grade level. Identify the language domain of the key task you’d like students to complete as part of the lesson (Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing). Finally move across the row to the language proficiency level of your student(s)

The WIDA Consortium states that educators and early childhood practitioners can also use the Can Do Descriptors in the following ways:
