Purpose of this assignment This assignment is designed to provide learners on how to develop the skills and knowledge needed for working with and leading others, through understanding the importance of recruiting the right people for the job Situation The Purple Mail Company (PMC) is one of the largest courier firms in UK. They are currently having leadership, management and administrative problems. The company had been making losses for some years and the self-employed drivers and staff are owed salary. In addition, customers who relied on PMC’s promises have also suffered losses for failure to deliver in time. The overall administration of the company and the process of recruitment and selection can be described as very poor and ‘lacking in proper checks and balances’. As a result, the CEO has been sacked. Further, some of the senior managers have also left the company together with 100 staff. In the midst of these things, you are appointed as the HR Manager and you are responsible for improving the overall management and standards of the company. Based on this scenario you are required to prepare the following reports. Task 1 Prepare a report as required below by addressing all the LO and AC as specified; LO 1: Be able to use recruitment, selection and retention procedures 1.1As the new HR Manager, You are asked to prepare the documentation towards selection and recruitment process and the documents required when selecting and recruiting a new staff for PM Company. 1.2 Assess the impact of legal, regulatory and ethical considerations to the recruitment and selection process for the PM Company 1.3 You are to evidence yourself that you a part of the selection process 1.4 Evaluate your own contribution to the selection process in the organisation. 7 LO 2: Understand the styles and impact of leadership 2.1 Explain the skills and attributes needed for leadership 2.2 Explain the difference between leadership and management. 2.3 Compare the different leadership styles for different situations with examples and 2.4 Explain ways to motivate staff to achieve objectives for the chosen scenario. Task 2 This is more about you to reflect yourself as to how you would be addressing the LO and AC as specified LO3 Be able to work effectively in a team 3.1 Assess the benefits of team-working for PM Company and review the effectiveness of the team in achieving the goals and 3.2 Demonstrate the importance of working in a team as a leader and member towards specific goals, dealing with any conflict or difficult situations. 3.3 Review the effectiveness of the team in achieving the goals LO 4: Be able to assess the work and development needs of individuals 4.1 Explain the important factors involved in planning the monitoring and assessment of work performance at PM Company 4.2 Write a plan and deliver the assessment of the development needs of individuals at PM Company 4.3 Evaluate the success of the assessment process so that the PM Company is back on track with high standard of management and leadership performance.

 

Prepare a report, which should comply with the word count of approx 3000 to 3500 with +/- 10% margin. You may use tables, charts and diagrams to support your report to illustrate the text. Word count excludes the index, headings, information contained in tables, references and bibliography. You should use Harvard Referencing Style in-text referencing and bibliography.
