Flight engineers are a part of the flight crew. They check systems before flight, help develop flight plans, and continue to perform checks while the aircraft is in flight. Their focus is to ensure that there are no mechanical concerns, and they monitor the engines, mechanical systems and fuel levels during the fligh

Flight engineers are responsible for operating the systems in older airplanes. Before sophisticated computers, complex systems on airplanes such as the electrical, pneumatic, fuel, and hydraulic systems required specially trained operators

If pilots happen to have problems with the airplane’s mechanical instruments, flight engineers are the ones to call. They monitor the aircraft systems such as engines, gauge, wing flaps, and pressure indicators. They look at the weather conditions and check the proper amount of fuel needed for the whole flight.
